ELKFORD FIRE RESCUE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES INCIDENT REPORT

  • Incident: Structure fire in a residential home
  • Location of Incident: Galbraith Drive, Elkford, B.C.
  • Time and Date: 10:15 a.m. on March 20, 2022
  • Personnel and Equipment Deployed: Eight firefighters from the Elkford Fire Department, six firefighters from the Sparwood Fire Department, one engine and one ladder truck

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, eight firefighters from the Elkford Fire Department and six firefighters from the Sparwood Fire Department, one engine and one ladder truck were dispatched to extinguish a fully involved house fire in Elkford.

The first firefighters on the scene witnessed heavy smoke and flames coming from the fixed garage area and the pickup truck parked in the driveway. Hours later, the fire was deemed under control; however, the house and pickup truck had sustained extensive damage.

The adjacent residence (to the east) also sustained fire damage to its exterior roof gable. Fire Chief Curtis Nyuli, of the Elkford Fire Department, praised the quick response and assistance from its neighboring Sparwood Fire Department for their help in attending to this.

“Sparwood firefighters arrived on the scene and were immediately put into action, being given the task to breech the garage door next door, locate the smoke and flames coming from the west-facing attic vent and extinguish,” says Fire Chief Nyuli. “Only minutes later, the task was completed. That residence has been deemed safe, and its residents were cleared to return.”

No injuries were reported to residents of the homes or the firefighters working at the scene. The Elkford Fire Department continues its investigation into the cause of this fire and currently has no evidence to consider the fire suspicious in nature.

The Elkford Fire Department wishes to thank the Sparwood Fire Department, BC Ambulance Services and local emergency support staff for their assistance, as well as the nearby residents that were affected by this event for their patience and courtesy to our firefighters.

A friendly reminder from the fire department that spring is the perfect time to check your smoke alarms and replace batteries.
