Snow Removal

Information about snow removal in the District of Elkford.

At 1,300 metres above sea level, the Elkford area receives an average of 10 to 16 feet of snowpack annually. In accordance with the Snow Removal and Ice Control Policy, Elkford’s Public Works Department makes every effort to clear all roadways and sidewalks as soon as possible after a significant snowfall.

During normal operations, snow is ploughed (or blown) onto boulevards. Removal of snow from the end of driveways is the responsibility of the property owner. As time permits between snowfalls, the operators will remove snow piles from intersection corners to improve visibility.

Per the District of Elkford Traffic and Streets Amendment Bylaw, parking is prohibited on any roadway, street, highway or lane between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. from November 1 to March 31 (inclusive). This bylaw is in place so that Public Works can safely perform efficient and effective snow removal.
