Locals will be delighted to learn that a very familiar face is stepping forward to lead Elkford's Fire Rescue and Emergency Services. With a wealth of relevant experience, and an illustrious career in fire services that spans three decades, Curtis Nyuli has officially been appointed as Fire Chief for the District of Elkford.

Chief Nyuli has served Elkford in the role of Deputy Fire Chief since 2016, as well as acted as the community's Interim Fire Chief for the past three months. Launching his career in fire services 34 years ago, Nyuli brings an extensive background of operational fire safety experience and education, supplemented with demonstrated skills in leadership, training coordination, emergency operations, and both wildfire and structural firefighting. Administratively, he has proven himself well versed in budget management, fleet coordination and strategic planning.

Prior to joining the Elkford Fire Department, Nyuli served the community of Joe Rich as its fire chief for twelve years; and before that, held positions as a captain and a firefighter in the Okanagan. His professional accomplishments are extensive and include volunteer and mentorship recognitions, meticulous safety accolades and several certifications that exceed the representative educational requirements for his new position. His long-term dedication to the fire service and his passion for community safety have made Curtis an effective leader, educator and collaborator~and the ideal fit for the District of Elkford.

I am thrilled to officially accept the role of Fire Chief for the District of Elkford. This is a position that I have spent my entire life working toward, and I am honoured to continue fulfilling the firefighting and safety needs of this community.

Chief Nyuli and his wife, Paula, are high school sweethearts who relocated to Elkford in 2016. They love calling Elkford home and enjoy fishing, hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

"Chief Nyuli has been an integral part of our community's fire and emergency services team for years, and his knowledge and background plainly speak for themselves," says Elkford's Mayor, Dean McKerracher. "On behalf of council, staff and citizens alike, please join me in congratulating him on this advancement. We are confident that his knowledge, integrity and in-depth understanding of Elkford's public safety needs will continue to advance the work being performed by our dedicated firefighting team to protect our town and its citizens, each and every day."
