This is your official invite to join us this Canada Day long weekend (June 30 to July 2) for Elkford's wildest event of the summer: Wildcat Days Watch your mailbox for the official map + event guide, print a copy from our website or pick one up at the event itself:

Look forward to our famous fireworks, a parade,  beer gardens and an outdoor music festival, a family ball tournament, a Canada Day BBQ, pool party, a show n’ shine, grass smash volleyball tournament, a pancake breakfast, fire trucks, an outdoor concession, face painting and balloons, an art show, entertainers, inflatables and games, food trucks, a craft fair, gold panning—and so much more! Advanced registration is required for some events.

How much pie can YOU eat? This is a good, old-fashioned pie-eating contest with one rule: eat more pie than anyone else! Are you up for the challenge? The cost to enter is free, and prizes will be awarded to the entrants in first, second and third place for most pie eaten.

Flavours of pie may vary. Please declare any/all food allergies while registering

Want to appear in the Wildcat Days Parade... with your pets!? Dress up your pet and show off them off! Prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third best dressed pets, and pre-registration is required. A maximum of two pets per person can be registered. Note that pets must be friendly towards people/other animals and kept leashed and controlled/kenneled at all times. 

Marshalling time is 9:30 a.m., with judging at 10:15 a.m. and the parade beginning at 11 a.m. The pet section of the parade lineup begins on the corner of Michel Road and Fording Drive; walk down until you find the pet section and join in.

Bring everything required to cook your famous family chili recipe and find out if it has the chops to win "best chili"! Judging will be performed by the public and first, second and third prizes will be awarded for best chili. 

Note: You must bring absolutely everything needed to prepare and cook your chili on-site. This includes your heat source, all raw ingredients (nothing can be pre-prepared or mixed), your own utensils, your own pots, pans bowls and a table. We also recommend a tent to provide shade. Please come prepared! By entering this cook-off, you are agreeing to fill chili bowls for people who purchase them from the Chilli Bowl Fundraiser sponsored by the Elkford Arts Council.

Join us for Elkford's annual Wildcat Days Parade on Saturday, July 1. The parade is one of the most popular events during Wildcat Days and each year, we strive to make the parade bigger and better!

The parade marshalling area will be at the Elkford Community Conference Centre. Marshalling will begin at 9:30 a.m. with judging to take place at 10:15 a.m. The parade will commence at 11 a.m.

Soapbox Racer Derby for Kids

Soapbox Racer Derby (for Kids Ages Six to Nine and 10 to 12)
 

Calling all kids between the ages of six and 12 years: have you always wanted to build and race your own non-motorized go-cart (also known as a soapbox racer)? Here's your chance!  Registration is free! The deadline to register racers is Saturday, June 24.

Two races will be held in the downtown area, on Saturday, July 1, following the Wildcat Days parade: a race for ages six to nine, and a race for ages 10 to 12. A trophy will be awarded to the racers placing first, second and third in each race.

  • Ages: 
    • Race #1: Six to nine years
    • Race #2: 10 to 12 years
  • Rules:
    • All go-carts/soapbox racers must be non-motorized
    • Parents/guardians are encouraged to help their kids build their racers
    • Helmets are mandatory and safety gear is strongly recommended for all entrants
    • There are no size restrictions or required materials for go-carts; use your imagination and have fun!

Sign up for Elkford's 16th Annual Wildcat Days Grass Smash Volleyball Tournament on July 1 and 2, 2023! This is a coed grass volleyball tournament, with teams consisting of two males and two females, and an annual tradition on Wildcat Days weekend!

Putter Madness: Build-a-Mini-Golf-Hole Competition

Putter Madness: Build-a-Mini-Golf-Hole Competition (for Individuals and Teams)
 

Think you've got what it takes to design and build the best mini golf hole ever? Put your skills to the test! This competition is open to both individuals and teams, who must register at the Community Conference Centre (CCC) by Friday, June 2, 2023 to build a (transportable) mini golf hole. Registration is free!

A course will be assembled using all of the entries on the soccer field, next to the District Office, to be played by the community at Wildcat Days on Saturday, July 1. Mini golf holes must be transported to the soccer field by the entrants between 9 and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, with setup completed by no later than 9:45 a.m.  Judging will take place immediately after set up, with prizes will be awarded for the best design and best to play. 

The community can enjoy free games of mini golf from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Players are encouraged to bring their own putters and balls, although a limited amount of putters and balls will be available to borrow. Scorecards will also be provided for community members to vote on their favourite hole, and a bonus prize will be awarded for the "fan favourite" before end of day.

  • Completion deadline: A video showing all angles of your completed project must be submitted by Monday, June 19 at 9 a.m. to recreation@elkford.ca
  • Setup deadline: Mini golf holes must be transported to the soccer field by entrants between 9 and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, with setup completed by no later than 9:45 a.m. Judging will take place immediately after set up, with prizes awarded for the best design and best to play.  Before end of day, scores will be tallied and a bonus prize awarded for the "fan favourite."
  • Rules:
    • Maximum area allowed is 16-square feet

    • Walls/sides high enough to keep the ball on the path are required, with a minimum height of one inch 

    • The golf ball hole itself should be at least three inches in diameter

    • The theme is "something you love"

    • Must be easy to transport!

  • Recommendations:
    • Recommended time for building is four to eight hours 
    • Using plywood or MDF for a firm base is recommended
